About Us

50 Years of Music Making

West London Sinfonia is now in its 53rd year. In normal years we perform five concerts locally, and a summer concert either in central London or on Kew Green. Some of us also get together from time to time in small groups to play chamber music, which we perform at an annual concert. Foreign visits are also a regular feature of the orchestra’s life. We have given concerts in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and Portugal and we went on tour to Ealing’s twin town, Marcq en Baroeul, near Lille in France, in 2019.

Adventurous Repertoire

We perform a wide variety of music, and in what we play, we try to be both popular and adventurous. Some of the main highlights of the last few seasons have been Verdi’s Requiem (with the Diversity Choir), a complete performance of Mendelssohn’s incidental music for A Midsummer Night’s Dream (with actors), Smetana’s Ma Vlast, Richard Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben, Mahler’s 7th Symphony, and our (postponed) 50th anniversary concert at St John’s Smith Square in 2022.

Major works to be played in the coming season include Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and Mahler’s 5th Symphony.

World Class Soloists

Soloists of an extremely high-calibre regularly choose to perform with us, and we often showcase the talents of some of our own members. We are well-known in our area of London for providing live music at accessible ticket prices and venues.

The funding for our activities is generated mainly from our concert income and subscriptions, and we receive no subsidies or grants.
